From the fourth week of 2020, when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus pandemic a global public health emergency, stockpiling per U.S. household had increased signficantly, compared to 2019: the Numerator Stockpiling Behavior Index for hoarding increased from just over 100 index points (i.e., just over the base index) at the end of January to over *** points by the middle of March. Over the course of the year, hoarding behavior decreased slowly but surely, even dropping below ** points in the **** week of 2020.
