The beginning of re-confinement at the end of 2020 was marked by controversies in France, over the closure of some businesses, which were deemed as non-essential by the French government. The French had indeed a rather negative opinion of the list of non-essential businesses forced to close during containment, which they considered for the most part inconsistent. Even the voters of Emmanuel Macron's party were only a little more than half to deem this list as coherent.
