During the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, employment in the retail sector experienced a significant drop in hours and shifts. While supermarkets and major online retailers saw impressive growth and profitability, brick and mortar retail shrunk, in large part due to lockdowns. Employees belonging to Generation Z and millennials were the ones who saw the largest drop in their number of shifts and hours, both at ** percent.
