Following the Spanish government's declaration of the state of alarm, the residents of the Mediterranean country were put under a lockdown that went on until the end of April 2020. During that period, instant messaging platforms became one of the population's favorite means of communication and entertainment. With 97 percent of instant messaging users, WhatsApp was the favorite social network during confinement, followed by Instagram, which was used by 50 percent of respondents.
