High rent or the current mortgage payment were the biggest obstacle delaying American homebuyers from saving for a down payment, a July 2024 survey among recent homebuyers found. About ** percent of respondents found saving for a down payment was the most challenging part of the process, with over ** percent pointing out childcare expenses as the leading reason. Moreover, the youngest group of homebuyers reported student loans as the biggest obstacles.
