French immigration bill - statistics & facts
In January 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a new immigration bill. The bill, mostly supported by the Interior minister Gérald Darmanin, was adopted by both the Chambers of the Parliament but not without controversy.
Firstly, the government's initial proposition of the bill had very few possibilities of being adopted by the first Chamber of the Parliament, since left-wing parties judged the text too harsh, meanwhile right-wing parties thought the opposite.
