**When no political group or coalition reaches the threshold of 289 deputies, the group or coalition with the largest number of seats has a relative majority.

According to a survey conducted in November 2024, a short majority of French respondents (** percent) declared they were in favor of a relative majority in the National Assembly. A relative majority implies that the government is forced to take into account the opposition forces' opinions when passing the laws. On the opposite, in a situation of absolute majority, laws are passed quickly, by the majority in power.Â
