The Baltic Dry Index (BDI), is issued daily by the London-based Baltic Exchange. It is considered a proxy for dry bulk shipping stocks as well as an indicator for the general shipping market. It based on a daily assessment of the current freight cost on various routes by a panel of international shipbrokers.
