Digital platforms and the internet are an omnipresent obstacle to printed press and printed media. This process started some years ago with the rising importance and user-friendliness of mobile devices. Already in 2012, 14 percent of Europeans read or downloaded news via mobile devices, with a peak of 28 percent for individuals in the United Kingdom. In 2014, 93 percent of individuals in Iceland read online news sites, newspapers or news magazines. Three years later, a survey showed that 19 percent of the respondents in the United Kingdom read printed newspapers daily.
