Renewable energy in the Baltics - statistics & facts
Though not among the largest in Europe, the Baltic renewable energy markets are actively developing. Overall, the energy sector in the region is undergoing a green energy transition and moving toward energy independence, having decoupled from the Russian electricity grid at the start of 2025. Growing investment and eased regulatory pressure have been shaping the markets in recent years. For instance, to encourage renewable energy use, the Lithuanian government eased the permit policy for wind and solar power plants in its legislative Breakthrough Package in 2022 and permitted hybrid power plants where several facilities using renewables are connected into one point.
