Data prior to 2024 were retrieved from earlier releases of the publication. Figures have been rounded. Data refers to the number of registered licenses for each specialization. Physicians with more than one specialization were counted as a specialist in each field they are authorized to practice.
In 2024, the number of licensed nephrologists in Brazil amounted to around 5,700 specialists, up from about 5,500 doctors registered two years prior. This figure grew by almost 100 percent compared to 2013, when there were around 2,900 licensed nephrologists in the country. The medical field of nephrology focuses on kidneys, their functions, and related disorders while also dealing with other conditions that might affect kidney functions, such as certain autoimmune diseases.
