Citation formats

The net lending/net borrowing in Belgium and the Netherlands from 2013 to the second quarter of 2020 (in euros per capita) changed drastically. In 2018, net lending in Belgium reached a size of approximately 108 euros per capita. However, this number had risen to approximately 1916 euros per capita in the second quarter of 2020. In the Netherlands, the net lending/net borrowing moved from around 932 euros per capita in 2018 to over 1848 euros per capita in the second quarter of 2020.

The change in the amount of net lending/net borrowing can be explained by the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic at the start of 2019. Due to the pandemic, with steady numbers of bankruptcy reported in for instance the Netherlands.
