This statistic shows the frequency of use of cash money in the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) in 2017. Approximately ** percent of the Belgian respondents indicated the last time they used cash was last week. This is a higher percentage than the one reached by the European consumer, indicating that Belgians make less of cash money than the European average.

In the last years, the number of available mobile payment apps in the Benelux countries steadily increased. In the Netherlands, banking apps from major banks as Rabobank, ING and ABN Amro were updated in 2013 to enable checkouts using iDEAL, a payment method with a current market share of over ** percent. In March 2017, Belgian banks BNP Paribas Fortis, Fintro and Hello Bank! launched their support for Android Pay whilst the Swedish mobile payment platform Seqr was introduced in Luxembourg in July 2016.
