The source lists that transaction costs, commission and interest are not included. Up to the second quarter of 2014 the figures relate solely to euro-denominated transactions between account holders (irrespective of their place of residence) of banks in the Netherlands. Foreign-currency-denominated transactions between residents are basically reported as cross-border payments. The source records all transactions between Dutch account holders (irrespective of their place of residence), regardless the currency used for the transaction.

In 2018, approximately *** billion euros worth of transactions were made in the Netherlands using debit cards. That year, there were approximately *** million debit cards in the country. According to the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), approximately 55 percent of all Dutch consumers have a credit card in his or her possession. The use of debit cards, however, is much more accepted as a payment method.
