It continues that "Actual shares of individual payment methods by country and region are calculated using (a) data model. Our model contains a detailed breakdown of payment methods used when shopping online and at point of sale, which were sourced from GlobalData’s Consumer Payments ÌÇÐÄÆƽâ°æ survey, FIS internal data and other public sources."

Cash use at physical retail locations varied across the world in 2025, with the UK being **** times more "cashless" than Nigeria. This according to survey results that compared different payment methods at offline payment locations only. Cash on delivery - a popular e-commerce payment method in several countries in Africa - is therefore not included in this overview.Â
