Payment means at the POS in terms of number and value of deals in Portugal 2024
In Portugal, in 2024, cash was the most used payment method in terms of the number of transactions at points of sale (POS), being used in 54 percent of payment instances. Card payment was used at a share of 38 percent. However, when it came to the value of transactions at POS, card payments were closer to cash payments, as 46 percent of the transacted value was due to bank cards over 47 percent of cash payments. This signifies that the amount spent in card transactions was almost the same as the amount spent in cash.
