The United Kingdom is home to the greatest number of offshore wind turbines. As of the end of 2020, there were 2,294 such turbines connected to the power grid. 2019 marked the first year that Portugal connected an offshore wind turbine with two to follow at its floating turbine station. As for the whole of Europe, cumulative capacity installations amounted to 25 gigawatts in 2020.
