In Sweden, the number of payment transactions at point of sale (POS) terminals with cards issued generally increased between 2000 and 2023. In 2023, over 2.7 billion payments with local cards were made in the country.
Cashless society Sweden is transitioning to a cashless society rapidly. The use of cash money has drastically dropped over the 2010-2020 period. While different digital payment methods are popular, Swish takes the lead with 94 percent in 2020.
