The share of Swedes who used Swish increased significantly, starting at ** percent in 2014 and reaching ** percent in 2020. Swish is a mobile payment system which operates through a smartphone application and allows users to transfer money immediately. Another Swedish payment solution which got popular over the years was Klarna; it was used by ** percent of the respondents in the 2020 survey. Private accounts seemed to compose the highest numbers of Swish customers in Sweden as of July 2020. In fact, nearly eight million private accounts were registered in the evaluated period.

The highest value of Swish transactions was by private accounts in 2020 and it amounted at around *** Swedish kronor. Business and trade accounts ranked next and the average value of transactions in general amounted at around *** Swedish kronor.

Digital payment in Sweden 

How do Swedish online shoppers prefer to pay? Card payment was the most popular digital payment method among online shoppers in Sweden in 2018 and 2019. It was followed by invoice payment and Swish in 2019. Masterpass and Apple Pay were both used by roughly *** percent of the Swedes that year.
