The euro is the official currency of 19 Member States of the EU: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. These countries are collectively known as the euro area.

Citation formats

This statistic illustrates the results of a survey, asking citizens of eurozone countries the extent to which they do, or do not, convert the price of different purchases in euro to the previous national currency, as of October 2019. It can be seen that 12 percent of respondents reported they usually convert currencies for exceptional/big purchases, and another 16 percent reported converting for everyday common purchases at that time.
