These firms are registered as e-money institutions with the Central Bank of Ireland, meaning their transaction volumes are reported under Irish non-MFI statistics even if the underlying customers are spread across Europe. This is a well-known quirk of Irish payments data: the figures can be significantly inflated by the passporting activity of Ireland-domiciled fintechs serving the wider EU market.
