Two-thirds of the American population disapprove of the Supreme Court's decision that overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling and gave each U.S. state the ability to determine the legality of abortion. The Roe v. Wade ruling had allowed voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) to be guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution through the right to privacy since 1973. Gender plays an important role in attitudes toward this legal reversal, with 71 percent of women disapproving of the Supreme Court's decision, while only 58 percent of men disapprove.
