It is estimated that there are about 27,000 coal miners working in thermal coal mines in countries worldwide with national commitments to phase-out coal production by 2030. In countries with coal phase-out pledges set to be implemented between 2051 and 2070, however, the amount of coal miners who would be affected is estimated at 465,000. The resultant unemployment and labor disruptions are a cause for consideration and effective planning. Conversely, there are about 1.04 million thermal coal miners worldwide who work in countries that do not have phase-out pledges at all.
