The mining industry plays a crucial in the global economy. From mineral exploration to extraction, the industry employs large amounts of people around the world, and ultimately produces many of the raw materials required for modern life. The mining industry consists of a mix of smaller companies, which mainly focus on mineral exploration, and larger companies, which typically focus on mineral production and operations. In 2023, the combined revenue of the 40 largest mining companies in the world amounted to 845 billion U.S. dollars. Although many of the world’s largest mining companies are headquartered in the United Kingdom, in mainland Europe, or Australia, in recent years many Chinese mining companies have become increasingly prominent and have increasingly high revenues.
