Between 2021 and 2022, there were 71 financial institutions in Europe that upgraded their existing coal exit policies, and an additional 11 European financial institutions with new coal exit policies. In contrast, Africa had just four financial institutions that upgraded existing coal exit policies during that timeframe, and none with new policies.
