According to a 2024 survey conducted among parents of children in public schools in the United States, the main concerns that repondents had about their child's online experiences revolved around communication with strangers and digital privacy. Up to ** percent of parents worried about their child communicating with unknown adults on social media, while the same share of respondents was concerned about their child sharing personal information with unknown individuals or on unfamiliar websites. Other leading concerns involved their child seeing sexual content online, making plans to meet strangers in person, and exposure to bullying.
