Yearly prices are either averages of daily allowances, or allowance-weighted averages of clearing prices in all auctions held within that year. The emissions-weighted carbon price in emissions trading systems (ETS) is calculated for the whole economy by multiplying each sector's (e.g. electricity, or road transport) carbon price by its contribution to a country's carbon dioxide emissions.
The global average emissions-weighted price on emissions covered by an emissions trading system (ETS) was ****Â U.S. dollars per metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent (USD/tCOâ‚‚e) in 2025. The EU ETS became the world's first carbon market in 2005.
