The share of global greenhouse gas emissions covered by a direct carbon price are calculated based on direct carbon pricing instruments in operation. The calculation of emissions coverage by carbon pricing instruments is based on official government sources, though these do not necessarily factor in exemptions and/or emissions thresholds. Some jurisdictions have multiple instruments in place. For example, Germany has an ETS but is also covered by the EU ETS.
