Prices are not necessarily comparable between carbon pricing initiatives because of differences in the sectors covered and allocation methods applied, specific exemptions, and different compensation methods. Some jurisdictions have multiple instruments in place. For example, Germany has an ETS but is also covered by the EU ETS.

Prices of carbon trading worldwide 2025, by jurisdiction
As of April 2025, the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) carbon price was above ** U.S. dollars per metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (USD/tCOâ‚‚e). The EU ETS launched in 2005 as a cost-effective way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and was the world's first major international carbon market. The UK was formerly part of the EU ETS, but replaced this with its own system after withdrawing from the EU. As of April 2025, the price of carbon on the UK ETS was almost ** ±«³§¶Ù/³Ù°ä°¿â‚‚e.
