The largest PMTCT coverage in the examined period in MENA took place in 2019, when also the lowest mother-to-child HIV transmission rate was recorded, at 39 and 26 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest PMTCT coverage was observed in 2015, together with the highest mother-to-child transmission rate, at 22 and 31 percent, respectively.
PMTCT coverage reflects the proportion of HIV-positive pregnant women receiving antiretroviral drugs to prevent infant transmission.
