Figures include all types of appointments: face-to-face, home visit, telephone, video conference/online, or unknown. Figures include all types of general practice appointments with GPs (45%), other practice staff (52.8%) and unknown (2.3%).Â
The source adds the following: "Actual duration is recorded differently depending on the practice's system supplier. This leads to variations in data quality, and NHS England are continuing to work with system suppliers to address these inconsistencies."
In February 2025, of general practice appointments where the duration is known, most lasted six to ten minutes. However, one in seven GP appointments lasted over 20 minutes, showing the complexity of some patients even in primary care.
