In the EU, the defense expenditure per capita has rapidly risen since 2018, when it was below 400 euros, and reached around 618 euros in 2023. The sharp increase was probably due to the large investments in the defense sectors carried out by northern European countries, in particular Denmark, that joined the Common Security and Defense Policy in 2022, and Finland.
