Italian defense spending was the third-highest of all European Union member states in 2023, with the total of **** billion euros being the equivalent of *** percent of GDP. This amount has risen sharply since 2015, when it was at a low of **** billion euros, however, Italian defense expenditure still consistently falls short of the target set by NATO for military spending of *** percent.
