According to a survey conducted in Nigeria in 2023, the likelihood of male employees in the government sector asking for bribes was higher than that of female public workers. This was most prevalent with the police, where 46 percent of the respondents who had been asked for a bribe revealed that the perpetrators were men. In contrast, 28 percent of the surveyed revealed that they were demanded by a female police officer to pay a bribe.
