Participants were asked to indicate how they would prefer to use payment methods in various scenarios—such as payment recipients, as payers, in different payment situations, for specific payment amounts, and so on. Respondents are a representative sample of the population aged 18-74 who are connected to the internet.

'Ultra-Orthodox' refers to a conservative and highly observant stream of Judaism. Ultra-orthodox Jews are also known as Haredi or Haredim.

'Payment app' refers to a mobile application that facilitates financial transactions as an intermediary, with some apps offering wallet-like features to store money temporarily.

Citation formats

As of July 2022, only 12 percent of Ultra-Orthodox individuals and almost 16 percent of Arabs in Israel used a mobile payment app recently. In comparison, nearly 34 percent of respondents who belong to the rest of the Israeli population reported using payment apps. Interestingly, about half of the Ultra-Orthodox and Arab populations do not use payment apps at all.
