The survey respondents comprised of 47 insurers. From these respondents, 24 were large carriers having one billion in premiums. The remaining firms were midsize and smaller firms.Â
Firms were asked in which department(s) did they begin automation. Respondents could select up to three departments.

As of 2023, ** percent of insurance firms surveyed noted having automated to some extent the customer service department. The second most popular department to engage in automation was claims and processing. Underwriting rounded out the top spot, as over ** percent of firms have automated in this department.Â
