** Chinese banking institutions issued green bonds themselves in 2021. The value of green loans on the balance sheets of Chinese banks amounted to almost ** trillion yuan, an ** percent increase compared to the previous year. Although other types of banking institutions have high growth rates, based on absolute growth banking under the direct control of the state was the main driver of green financial products, which is in line with broader trends in the industry. For instance, state-owned enterprises were also the leading contributor to the growth of green bond issuance.
