Polish utility PGE is the EU-based power utility with the largest emissions from coal use. In 2021, PGE emitted around ** million metric tons of CO2, of which the majority was lignite. Coal is a major source of energy in Poland and dominates the country's power sector. German utilities RWE and Uniper are also large emitters of CO2 through their coal use.
