All data based on Duke Energy’s ownership share of generating assets as of the end of each calendar year. Fuels used by Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC) are excluded because power from OVEC and associated emissions are accounted as purchased power and Scope 3 emissions.

Duke Energy emitted ** million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCOâ‚‚) from electricity generation in 2023, a year-on-year decrease of roughly six percent. These reductions were mainly due to decreased generation from fossil assets and decreased customer demand for electricity. Overall, Duke Energy's COâ‚‚ emissions from electricity generation have reduced by ** percent since 2005. The North Carolina-based energy company now aims to reduce its emissions from electricity generation by ** percent from 2005 levels by 2040. While Duke Energy has made progress in cutting emissions from electricity generation in recent decades, it remains one of the largest corporate GHG emitters in the U.S.
