The source for post-2022 figures adds the following information: The data is based on submissions of active user numbers (‘active’ defined as active in the last month) and digitally active end-users by the nine largest banks in the UK. It therefore only represents penetration within the digital customer bases of these banks
In March 2026, the number of active open banking users in the United Kingdom surged to almost ** million, up from approximately million at the end of 2023. Open banking enables third-party financial services providers to access consumer banking and financial data through APIs, facilitating enhanced financial services and data sharing between institutions.
