An October 2021 survey of gaming audiences in the United States found that a significant majority of female gamers preferred to play single player games where the only opponent was the game or the computer. Only ** percent of male respondents stated the same. Over a quarter of male respondents stated that their main way of gaming was online with friends, highlighting the social aspect of gaming as an activity.
