Ptolemaida in Greece is the largest coal power plant in construction or proposal stage among the 27 European Union member states as of 2021, with a capacity of 660 megawatts. This power plant already has four units with a combined operating capacity of 550 megawatts. There are only four coal power stations currently in the proposed or construction phase in the EU.
