European coal consumption declined from ** to * exajoules, between 2000 and 2018, respectively. From 2025 to 2050, figures are forecasted to decline in all scenarios. However, coal consumption in Europe is not expected to phase out in the business-as-usual scenario, reaching some two exajoules in 2050.
