The level of abstention registered in the first round of the **** regional elections is the highest ever recorded in France. There are several actions that could lower this rate and encourage citizens to vote; one would be to allow French citizens to vote by Internet, and another would be to make voting mandatory. While the latter has only mixed approval, the first option proved very popular: more than **** of the French were in favor of allowing internet voting.
