The abstention rate recorded in the first round of the regional elections of **** is the highest ever measured in France. While for French citizens the reasons for this abstention are diverse, the majority of abstentionists consider the political parties themselves responsible as they failed to interest voters in these elections. More than a third of respondents also think that President Macron is responsible for this abstention rate, as he tried to use the regional elections for his own presidential campaign. The third most commonly cited reason was the French citizens themselves, with the lack of civic-mindedness being particularly cited by the non-abstentionists.
