Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020, large gatherings at places such as sports stadiums were limited and social distancing measures were put in place to contain the spread of the virus. According to a 2021 survey in Italy, ** percent of respondents stated that they thought it would be safe for sports stadiums to open at a capacity of between ** and ** percent of seats filled. Meanwhile, **** percent of respondents stated that stadiums should be empty.
