According to a survey conducted in October 2020 in South Korea, more than half of the surveyed transgender people have given up looking for a job because of their transgender identity. Transgender people in South Korea experience discrimination in all areas in society, not least when looking for a job. In South Korea, several legislative initiatives for an anti-discrimination law have been unsuccessful since 2007, sparking a great deal of controversy.
