According to a survey conducted in October 2020 in South Korea, about ** percent of South Korean transgender people who have experienced discrimination in the past 12 months have done so because of their transgender identity or gender expression. Approximately ** percent have been discriminated against on the basis of their gender.

While transgender people in South Korea experience discrimination in all areas in society, several legislative initiatives for an anti-discrimination law have been unsuccessful since 2007, sparking a great deal of controversy.
