In Nigeria, people living in rural areas are more likely to experience vote-buying in organized elections. As of 2019, ** percent of male and ** percent of female respondents declared that they were offered money or non鈥恗onetary favors in exchange for their vote in state and national elections. The higher likelihood of vote-buying in rural Nigeria might be related to higher poverty rates in rural areas than urban ones. Therefore, rural voters might be more often targeted in electoral frauds.
