Road transportation in the European Union (EU-27) produced the equivalent of *** million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCOâ‚‚e) in 2023. Three years earlier, EU road transportation emissions plummeted by more than ** percent year-on-year, owing to COVID-19-related travel restrictions. However, while emissions have rebounded since then, they have remained below pre-pandemic levels. Overall, annual EU road transportation emissions have risen by around ** percent since 1990.
